Wiring adapter cord Swivel Function Tow bars are notoriously difficult to connect and disconnect, especially on uneven surfaces. Rigid tow bars have arms that are essentially locked in place so you have to drive your towed Jeep Wrangler into the exact position necessary for hookup. But with the Alpha, you can connect from the approximate towing position, even on unlevel terrain. The unique swivel design allows the tow bar arms to turn and pivot just enough to compensate for a slight height difference so you no longer have to worry about being on completely level ground. Self-Aligning Design The convenient, self-centering arms help to make hookup a snap as well. Once you have connected the tow bar to the base plates on your towed Jeep Wrangler, simply drive your RV forward until the tow bar arms fully extend and lock in place. Non-Binding Tow Bar Blue Ox has defeated the age-old problem of binding by creating a tow bar that is just as easy to release as it is to hook up. Simply press down the locking handles on the tow bar arms until the internal latch disengages. By releasing some of the static pressure from your tow bar you can flex its arms just enough to make disconnecting from the base plates a snap, even when it’s out of level with your RV.

Brake control Battery power The first four pins are the same as the standard flat-four connections, and are connected to the tail light wiring harness run during Phase 3 above. The last two pins are used for the braking system. A standard Unified Tow Brake installation uses a separate two pin umbilical. I didn’t want to have to hook up two umbilicals each time, so I combined all of the wires into my own custom six pin umbilical. This works out well for me since the motorhome hitch includes a seven pin blade socket, and the coach came factory pre-wired for the Unified Tow Brake, sending the brake signal out the brake control pin of this connector.
I came up with this scheme six years ago when I installed everything on my last truck. It appears that the installation instructions for the toad-only kit for pre-wired motorhomes have since been updated to include this wiring scheme, as there is now a section to this effect near the end of the installation instructions. I don’t recall this being there six years ago but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there at the time.

I’ve placed 4-orders with etrailer. So far I’ve installed the base plate, the wiring from the rear tail lights to the front end. I also received my Tow bar and the quick release parts. I want to send Kudos to Cathy T for her help and her great customer service. I’am also thanking James A for his quick response to a question about the wiring harness. I’am extremely happy with the quality of everything I ordered at etrailer. Thanks – RM by:

If we do tow, should we get a tow dolly or tow four wheels down? If we tow four wheels down, what kind of tow package should we get? Should I tow a car behind my RV at all? We are asked this question all the time. Ultimately, the past two years has been an extensive testing ground for both scenarios — towing and not towing.
Recently, we found what we believe is the best setup for our ideal form of travel:
The Ready Brute Elite Tow Bar (RB) is a fast and convenient system that offers the highest towing capacity of any aluminum tow bar at lbs and an integrated brake system! The Ready Brute Elite Tow Bar is a combination of the popular Ready Brute RV Tow Bar .
When you brake while towing a vehicle behind an RV, stopping distance is increased due to the weight of the vehicle and it’s momentum pushing against the RV. The ReadyBrake uses this energy to compress a shock and spring inside it which allows an actuator arm to move forward, pulling down your towed vehicle brake pedal with an attached cable. It takes a few hundred pounds of pressure to activate the ReadyBrake, so the towed vehicle will follow the RV down a steep mountain grade only applying brakes when you do.
After initial install, only an adjustable sling cable is used to connect or disconnect the ReadyBrake. We recommend leaving about 2 inches of slack in the adjustable sling cable to keep the brake from activating while going over dips like at a gas station. When the RV comes to a complete stop the ReadyBrake actuator arm stays in the forward position continuing to hold the towed vehicle brake pedal down until the RV moves forward a couple of inches to disengage it.
Choose a set of included clevis connectors to attach your Ready Brute tow bar to your towed vehicle base plate. We offer clevis connectors to attach to any Blue Ox, Demco or Roadmaster brand base plates. We can also make custom clevis connectors for other base plate brands or even steel bumpers that have D-Ring connectors.
If you choose custom clevis connectors please email us dimensions and pictures or a drawing of what you want to connect to. These will also connect to Demco brand base plates that start with part number instead of These bolt on to the end of the ReadyBrute or ReadyBrute Elite tow bar legs using shoulder bolts that are installed on the tow bar at the factory.

View Photo Gallery 12 Photos When traveling with an RV, half the fun is getting there while the other half is getting around once you’ve arrived. When towing a trailer or fifth wheel you simply unhook the RV and use your tow vehicle for sightseeing and other daily transportation. When traveling by motorhome you are motorized, so it’s just not possible to take it apart and use one half as your local transportation. For this reason the majority of motorhome owners prefer to tow a small vehicle behind the motorhome.
This vehicle can be anything from an economical car to a serious off-road capable SUV, or anything in between depending on what type of recreation the RVer is looking for. Not every vehicle is capable of being flat towed and the majority of the time it is due to limitations of that particular vehicle’s driveline.

The Aventa II is a steel tow bar, is rated to tow 10, lb, and is very easy to hook up for towing. One important aspect of towbar use is to ensure the towbar is as close to level as possible when in use. Blue Ox recomends the motorhome end be no more than 2″ higher than the car end of the towbar, and NEVER lower than the car end.
If the car end is higher than the motorhome end, the car could “climb” the towbar in an emergency stop. With a 4″ “drop” adapter in place, the motorhome end of our towbar is apx 1″ higher than the car end. The first 4″ drop we had was distributed by Roadmaster. With it in place, our 10, lb towing capacity was reduced to 5, lbs. We later bought a Blue Ox 4″ drop.
The Blue Ox drop is shorter, and maintains the 10, lb towing capacity of our hitch and tow bar. The drop in the pictures on this page is the longer, lower-rated Roadmaster drop. Our motorhome came with a full-width “mud flap” in place.
